Most vaporizers at this price ask you to pick a temperature. The PAX Mini does not have one to pick. There is a single button and one automatic mode, and the device reads how you are drawing and adjusts the heat to match. Draw slowly and it eases off, draw harder and it pushes. For a lot of people that is the whole appeal, because a temperature menu is one more thing to think about.
The oven holds 0.25 g, which is deliberately smaller than the 0.35 to 0.5 g the PAX 2 and PAX Plus take. That suits one person having a session rather than a group passing it around, and it means the load actually gets used rather than sitting half-vaped until tomorrow. It is ready in about 22 seconds and a charge covers two hours or more of use.
The oven screen is a 3D shape that pops out on its own, which sounds like a small thing until you have picked a flat screen out of a hot oven with a tool. Cleaning is genuinely quicker on this one. It takes the same flat and raised mouthpieces, screens and lids as the rest of the PAX line, both mouthpiece shapes are in the box, and it charges off the magnetic cable.
This is the first-generation Mini, in Platinum and Onyx. PAX has since released a second Mini with a larger oven and four heat modes, so reviews of the newer one describe a different device.

Is this the first PAX Mini or the newer one?
This is the first generation, sold in Platinum and Onyx. It has a 0.25 g oven and one automatic heat mode. PAX later released a second Mini with a 0.5 g oven and four selectable heat modes, so a review or a spec sheet quoting four modes is describing that newer device, not this one. It matters for accessories too: the Half Pack Oven Lid fits the second generation Mini and not this one.
Does the PAX Mini have temperature settings?
No, and that is intentional. There is one mode. The device watches how hard and how long you draw and moves the heat to suit, so a gentle pull runs cooler for flavour and a longer pull runs hotter for vapour. You get the range without a menu. If you want to set an exact temperature yourself, the PAX 2 gives you four presets and the PAX Plus gives you four modes.
PAX Mini or PAX Plus?
The Plus is the bigger device in every sense: a 0.35 to 0.5 g oven, four Experience Modes reaching 464°F, concentrate compatibility with the insert and a 10 year warranty. The Mini has a 0.25 g oven, one automatic mode and flower only. Buy the Mini for simplicity and pocket size, the Plus if you want control, concentrates or a longer session.
How does it compare with the PAX 3?
The PAX 3 heats in a similar time but adds app control over Bluetooth, a bigger battery, the concentrate insert and a larger oven. The Mini strips all of that out for a smaller body and a single button. Both take the same mouthpieces, screens and lids. If you want the accessories ecosystem without the price or the app, the Mini is the entry point.
How do you clean a PAX Mini?
Let it cool, lift the oven lid and pop the 3D screen out, which comes free without a tool on this model. Run a pipe cleaner dipped in isopropyl through the mouthpiece and the vapour path, and use a brush on the oven walls. Doing it while the device is still slightly warm is much easier than after residue hardens. Replace the screen rather than fighting it once draw resistance climbs.
