The Ziva 2.0 is built around cartridges that most batteries cannot physically take. Yocan rate it for 2 gram carts, which are taller and fatter than the 0.5 and 1 gram ones a slim battery is designed for, and the 36 by 21 by 110 mm body has the height to hold one without it sticking out the top.

The other thing you notice is the screen. It is a 1.26 inch colour TFT rather than the small monochrome OLED on the ARI and Flat, and it shows voltage, remaining charge, puff count, the resistance of the cartridge you have fitted and a timer for the current draw. The resistance reading is genuinely useful: it tells you whether the cart has seated properly before you have wasted anything finding out.

Three firing modes are available. Draw-activated means you just inhale, manual means you hold the button, and there is an automatic mode as well, so you can set it up to suit how you prefer to use it rather than adapting to the device.

Voltage is adjustable from 1.8 to 4.2 in tenth of a volt steps, with a ten second preheat at 1.8. A fifteen second cut-off protects the cart and the cell, and it shuts down after sixty minutes idle. USB-C charging at 5 V/1 A takes about an hour. Yocan ship it as the device only, with no cable.

Frequently asked questions

Will it take a 2 gram cartridge?

Yes, that is what it is built for. Two gram carts are both taller and wider than the half and one gram ones most slim batteries are sized around, and on a smaller device they either will not seat or stand well proud of the top. The Ziva 2.0's 110 mm body has the height to carry one properly. Smaller cartridges fit it perfectly well too.

What are the three firing modes?

Draw-activated fires when you inhale, with no button at all. Manual means you hold the button down while you draw, which is the traditional way and gives you the most control over timing. There is also an automatic mode. Most people settle on one and never change, but having the choice means the battery adapts to you instead of the reverse.

What is the resistance reading for?

It shows the ohm value of whatever cartridge you have screwed on. Practically, it tells you the cart has made proper contact before you take a draw, which saves the usual routine of pressing the button, getting nothing, and unscrewing to check. An unusually high or absent reading normally means the cart is not seated or has failed.

Why does it stop firing after fifteen seconds?

That is a protective cut-off. Holding power to a cartridge for longer than about fifteen seconds risks overheating the oil and the wick inside it, which produces a burnt taste that will not go away. Releasing and pressing again resets it. Almost every cart battery has a limit of this kind, and this one shows you the draw timer on screen as well.

Does the colour screen drain the battery?

It uses more than a small monochrome OLED, which is part of why the Ziva sits at 650 mAh rather than 400. In practice the screen is only lit while you are using or adjusting the device, so the effect over a day is modest. You are trading a little runtime for the resistance reading and the draw timer, which the cheaper batteries cannot show you.
