The Orbit does away with the wire coil entirely. Inside the quartz cup sit loose quartz balls, and as you draw, the top airflow moves them around the concentrate. Nothing is wrapped in metal wire, so there is no wire to burn out and nothing metallic in the vapour path. What you taste is concentrate off hot quartz.
The moving balls are doing a real job rather than a decorative one. On a fixed coil the concentrate closest to the heat vaporizes first and the rest pools at the edges, which is why you end up stirring it. Balls that tumble through the load keep bringing fresh material into contact with the hot surface, so more of what you put in actually gets used.
There are three voltages at 3.4, 3.7 and 4.0 volts, behind a 1700 mAh battery, which is the largest cell on any of our Yocan pens. The chassis is stainless steel and it charges over USB-C.
The parts that wear here are the quartz balls and the seal rings rather than a coil, and Yocan put spares of both in the box. When output drops or the taste turns dull, it is usually the quartz cup that needs replacing, and the Orbit and Orbit 2.0 take the same one.

Frequently asked questions
How does a vaporizer work without a coil?
The heat comes from the quartz cup itself rather than from wire wrapped around a rod. Loose quartz balls sit in that cup, and the airflow pushes them around your concentrate as you draw. Because no wire touches the material, there is nothing metallic in the vapour path and no coil filament to burn out. You taste the concentrate off hot quartz.
What are the spinning balls actually for?
Even heating. With a fixed coil, whatever is touching the hot part vaporizes first and the rest pools around the edges, which is why people stir a chamber mid-session. Balls that tumble through the load keep pulling fresh concentrate onto the hot quartz, so more of what you loaded gets used and less of it is left stuck to the sides.
What wears out on this pen?
Not a coil, since there is not one. The quartz cup dulls over time and the quartz balls and seal rings need replacing periodically, which is why Yocan put spares of both in the box. When the taste flattens or output drops on a full battery, the cup is the part to change. We stock the replacement, and it is the same one the Orbit 2.0 takes.
Will Orbit 2.0 coils fit the original Orbit?
Yes. Yocan confirm the Orbit and Orbit 2.0 use the same replacement coil, so the one we stock fits both. Do not extend that to other parts though: the glass mouthpieces are specifically not interchangeable between the two models. If you are replacing anything beyond the coil, check which generation your device is first.
How long does a 1700 mAh battery last?
It is the biggest cell on any of the Yocan pens we carry, roughly half again what the Evolve Plus and Magneto hold. Real runtime still comes down to which voltage you use and how long your draws are, so a pen run at 3.4 volts goes considerably further than the same one at 4.0. It charges over USB-C rather than Micro-USB.
Can I have a Yocan Orbit delivered today in Vancouver?
Yes. Order between 8 AM and 10 PM and it reaches you the same day anywhere in Greater Vancouver, usually inside a 45 to 60 minute window. Orders after 10 PM are sent the next day. We also ship it Canada-wide in discreet packaging, and it is available to pick up at our Commercial Drive shop.
