Wax coils usually make you choose. A quartz rod heats fast and gives you thick vapour but burns through flavour; a ceramic donut tastes better and takes its time. The Cubex is built around a coil Yocan call TGT that puts both materials in one atomizer, so you are not picking a side at the point of purchase.
The practical benefit is less about the vapour than the cleaning. There is no exposed coil inside the chamber, which is the part of a traditional wax atomizer that collects residue and eventually stops heating evenly. A flat heating surface with nothing to wrap around wipes clean instead.
Three voltage settings, 3.0, 3.6 and 4.2 V, cover the range from a low flavour-led draw to something much denser. A ten second preheat loosens up cold or firm concentrate before a session, and the device cuts out automatically at fifteen seconds so it cannot be left running. The mouthpiece cap is magnetic, so loading means pulling it off rather than unscrewing anything sticky.
At 114 mm tall in an aluminium body with a 1400 mAh cell, it sits at the portable end of the range rather than the pocket-pen end, and charges over USB-C.

What is the TGT coil and why does it matter?
TGT is Yocan's name for a coil that uses both ceramic and quartz in one heating element rather than making you choose between them. Quartz heats quickly and produces dense vapour, ceramic gives cleaner flavour and heats more gradually. Putting both in one atomizer means the Cubex does not force the usual trade-off between taste and cloud.
Is it easier to clean than a normal wax pen?
Considerably, and that is the main practical argument for it. A traditional wax atomizer has an exposed coil wrapped around a rod, and residue collects in the wrap until the coil stops heating evenly. The TGT coil has no exposed wrap, so the heating surface wipes clean with a cotton swab and a little isopropyl instead of needing replacement as often.
Which voltage setting should I use?
Start at 3.0 V. The lowest setting gives you the most flavour and the thinnest vapour, which is usually what you want with a concentrate you have not tried before. Move to 3.6 V for a middle draw and 4.2 V when you want something much denser. Higher is not better, it is just hotter, and it burns through material faster.
What is the preheat function for?
Concentrate that has been sitting somewhere cold goes firm, and a firm dab does not make contact with the heating surface properly, so the first draw comes out thin. The ten second preheat warms the chamber gently to loosen it before you start a real session. It is worth using in winter and largely unnecessary in a warm room.
How many draws do I get from a charge?
Yocan do not publish a figure and it varies a great deal with which voltage you use, so we will not invent one. What is published is the 1400 mAh cell, which is generous for a device this size and will comfortably see out a day of ordinary use. It charges over USB-C, so topping it up mid-day is quick.
Do you deliver the Cubex in Vancouver the same day?
