Stündenglass make this one under an official licence with the Grateful Dead, and the artwork is specific rather than a logo dropped onto a plain device. The colourway is blue and red, taken from the band's own palette, with the Stealie sitting on the core of the device and white lightning bolts running across the base.
Mechanically it is the standard V3 and nothing about how it works changes. Two borosilicate globes in an anodized aluminium frame, rotated through 360 degrees so water falls from one to the other. That displacement drives air back through the bowl and pushes smoke out of the rotatable mouthpiece in a steady stream, which means you never pull on it. There is no battery and nothing electronic in the device at all.
The 14 mm universal adapter accepts dry material and concentrate attachments, water percolation handles cooling, and an NFC chip covers verification and registration.
One clarification worth making, because the two get confused: Stündenglass also produce a Legacy Patchwork Grateful Dead edition, hand-dipped with more than thirty layered images so that no two are the same. That is a different and more expensive piece. This is the standard Grateful Dead edition.
No hose is included with the V3.

Frequently asked questions
Is this the hand-dipped Legacy Patchwork one?
No, and the difference is worth being clear about. The Legacy Patchwork is a separate Stündenglass release where more than thirty pieces of Grateful Dead imagery are layered on by hand-dipped water transfer, so no two units are identical, and it costs more. This is the standard Grateful Dead edition: blue and red, Stealie on the core, lightning bolts on the base.
Is the artwork officially licensed?
Yes. Stündenglass produce it under an official licence with the Grateful Dead, which is why the Stealie and the lightning bolt imagery are used properly rather than approximated. That matters if you care about the band, and it is also the practical difference between this and the unlicensed Dead-styled glass that turns up in a lot of shops.
Does the artwork wear off?
The finish is applied to the anodized aluminium frame, and the warranty explicitly does not cover coatings, so treat it as something to look after. In practice that means cleaning the frame with a soft cloth rather than solvents, and keeping isopropyl for the glass. The globes and the bowl assembly are where you can be more aggressive.
What happens if I break a globe?
You fit a replacement standard large glass globe, which we stock. Unlike the Tyson edition, there is no Grateful Dead specific globe, so a replacement will be clear rather than carrying the artwork. The device works exactly as before; you just lose a little of the look. The frame is where the Dead artwork actually lives, and that does not break.
Do I have to inhale from it?
No, and this is the thing people find odd at first. The rotation pushes smoke out of the mouthpiece under its own pressure, so it streams towards you rather than waiting for you to pull it. You take what you want from the stream without your mouth touching anything. A hose is available separately if you would rather draw directly.
How fast can you deliver the Grateful Dead edition in Vancouver?
Same-day on any order placed between 8 AM and 10 PM, anywhere in Greater Vancouver, most often landing 45 to 60 minutes after you order. Orders taken after 10 PM go out the following day instead. We also ship it Canada-wide in plain packaging, and it is available to collect on Commercial Drive.
