Dr Dabber Switch 2

The Dr Dabber Switch 2 is a desktop-class electric dab rig that heats concentrates by induction instead of a coil. An infrared sensor reads the temperature of the insert itself and holds it anywhere between 250°F and 650°F, so the number you set is the number your dab actually gets. It is the second generation of the Switch platform, and the version we demo at all six of our Metro Vancouver stores.

What changed from the original Switch

Three things, and each of them matters at the counter. The IR sensor is new; the original Switch estimated temperature from the coil, while the Switch 2 measures the cup directly. Next, the quartz insert grew to 20 mm, which Dr Dabber puts at 300 percent more capacity than the original’s cup, so you load a full dab without it climbing the walls. And the app arrived: Bluetooth pairing lets you build custom heating curves instead of choosing from fixed presets. The battery also stretches to around 50 heating cycles on a charge, up from what the first version managed. If you already own the original and it still runs well, the upgrade case rests on the sensor and the app. Anyone buying a first rig has no reason to look at the older one.

Why induction changes the hit

A coil heats from one side. Induction heats the insert from every direction at once, which is what “omnidirectional” means on the spec sheet, and it is the reason the Switch 2 produces the same cloud on the first pull and the last. There is no hot spot at the bottom of the cup and no cold edge where oil pools and burns late. Heat-up runs 5 to 30 seconds depending on the temperature you pick, and the glass-lined alumina ceramic oven around the insert keeps flavour clean session after session.

Three heating modes

Descent starts at your set temperature and drops one degree per second while you draw, so the hit stays smooth as it goes. Ascent runs the other way, opening cool for flavour and building to a finish. Steady holds a single temperature and adjusts output to your inhale and your dab size. Most owners settle into Descent for daily use and keep Ascent for the good stuff.
