The Light is the entry point to the whole Dr. Dabber range and it is deliberately simple. One temperature setting, 550 to 650°F, a button, and nothing to configure. There is no mode to get lost in and no app, which for a lot of people is the entire appeal.

The design choice worth knowing is that the atomizer is built into the top rather than sitting as a separate threaded piece. That means replacing a worn atomizer means swapping the top, which is one part instead of two and is why the replacement top is the only accessory this pen really needs.

It is also 510 threaded, so alongside concentrate it will take standard 510 cartridges. That makes it more flexible than the price suggests, and it is the reason people who already own carts often pick this one up as a second battery. At 4.4 inches and 2 oz it is closer to a pen than any of the rigs.

Expect around 30 heating cycles per charge and about an hour to refill over USB. Heat-up is effectively instant, since there is no chamber to bring up to temperature and hold. That is the trade against something like the Stella: the Light gets going faster and costs a fraction as much, but you have one temperature and a simpler chamber, so the flavour will not match a sealed ceramic pen. For a spare, a travel unit or a first concentrate device, that is a fair deal.

Frequently asked questions

Does the Dr. Dabber Light take 510 cartridges?

Yes. It is a 510 threaded battery, so standard 510 cartridges thread straight onto it alongside the concentrate top it ships with. That flexibility is a large part of why people buy it. Bear in mind it runs one fixed temperature band of 550 to 650°F rather than adjustable voltage, so it suits some cartridges better than others.

How do I replace the atomizer on the Light?

You replace the top, not a separate atomizer. Dr. Dabber built the heating element into the mouthpiece top, so the whole top unscrews and a fresh one goes on. It is a single part and it is the only regular consumable this pen has. We stock the replacement top here, which is worth having before the old one gives out rather than after.

How long does the Light last on a charge?

Up to 30 heating cycles, with a full charge taking about an hour over USB. That is a smaller number than the rigs get, but the cycles themselves are short since there is no chamber to hold at temperature. For most people it works out to a couple of days of light use, less if you are running cartridges through it heavily.

What do I do if my Light stops drawing or tastes burnt?

Nearly always the top rather than the battery. Concentrate creeps into the airway and hardens, so the draw tightens and the taste goes off. Unscrew the top while the pen is still slightly warm and clear the mouthpiece channel with a cotton swab and isopropyl. If it has been run dry and the taste is scorched, the element inside the top is spent and no cleaning brings it back, so fit a fresh replacement top.

How do I clean the Light?

Unscrew the top, let everything cool and wipe the threads and the connection with a cotton swab dipped in isopropyl alcohol. Do not soak the battery. If the top has been used hard and the residue will not shift, it is a replacement rather than a rescue, since the element sits inside it and soaking it will do more harm than good.

What is the fastest way to get one in Vancouver?

Order it between 8 AM and 10 PM and same-day delivery covers Greater Vancouver, usually inside 45 to 60 minutes. After 10 PM it moves to the next day. Being small and inexpensive, it is the sort of thing most people add to a larger order, and we ship it Canada-wide in plain packaging as well.
