This is the first generation Switch, the device that put induction heating in front of most people who now own an e-rig. There is no exposed coil anywhere in it. The unit induces heat directly in a ceramic cup, which is why it can run flower in one mode and concentrate in another without the two ever sharing a surface.

That is the real trick here, and no other Dr. Dabber device does it. Leaf mode uses the black ceramic cup and handles ground flower. Oil mode uses the white ceramic cup for concentrate. You swap the cup, flip the mode, and the same rig does a different job. Advanced mode opens up all 25 heat settings, running from roughly 300°F at the bottom to roughly 780°F at the top in 20 degree steps, which is a wider band than anything else in the line.

Press Go and it is ready in about five seconds. The pack is good for up to 100 hits and takes 60 to 90 minutes to charge from nearly empty, and because the battery is a removable pack rather than a sealed cell, a spare is a real option for anyone using it hard. There is also a programmed self-cleaning cycle for the standard ceramic cups, which burns off residue instead of you scrubbing it.

Dr. Dabber has moved on to the Switch 2 and the smaller Switch GO, and neither of those runs flower. If dual use is why you are here, this is the one.

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between the black and white induction cups?

The black ceramic cup is for Leaf mode and takes ground flower. The white ceramic cup is for Oil mode and takes concentrate. Dr. Dabber sets them up that way in the manual and both come in the box. Keeping them separate is the point, since flower residue and concentrate residue behave differently and you do not want either flavour carrying into the other. Both are stocked here as replacements.

Does the original Switch really vaporize dry herb as well as concentrate?

It does, and it is the only Dr. Dabber device that does. Swap to the black ceramic cup, switch the unit into Leaf mode and it runs ground flower through the same glass percolator. Neither the Switch 2 nor the Switch GO carries flower over, they are concentrate only. If you want one rig for both materials from this brand, the original is the device that does it.

How is the Switch different from the Switch 2?

The Switch 2 estimates nothing: an infrared sensor reads the insert directly, where the original works from 25 fixed settings. The Switch 2 also takes a 20 mm quartz insert instead of ceramic cups, adds Bluetooth and three dynamic heating modes, and drops flower support entirely. The original still holds two advantages, a removable battery pack and dual material use, and it carries a 24 month warranty.

How do I run the self-cleaning cycle?

From any mode, press and hold the plus button until the power setting reaches maximum, then keep holding for another five seconds until the front lights escalate in red. That runs the programmed cleaning cycle, which is meant for the standard ceramic cups. It burns off residue rather than removing it physically, so it is a between-sessions routine, not a substitute for an isopropyl soak on the glass.

Can I buy a spare Switch battery pack?

Yes, and that is one of the better arguments for this generation. The pack is removable rather than sealed into the body, so a second one turns a 100 hit ceiling into a 200 hit ceiling with no downtime. It is stocked here. The charging cable and adapter are also sold separately, which matters because the Switch uses its own charger rather than a common USB cable.
