The U8 is an e-rig rather than a pen, which means water. Vapour leaves the chamber, passes through a tinted glass bubbler and arrives cooler and softer than anything a dab pen will give you, particularly at the top of the heat range.
That chamber is Utillian's BurstHit 3D design, ceramic and stainless steel, and ruby terp pearls come with it. The pearls roll as you draw and keep the concentrate moving so it works evenly instead of pooling.
Four heat levels run from 473°F up to 581°F, and boost mode goes to 626°F. The V2 recalibrated those temperatures so they hold steadier through a session, which is the real difference from the first version rather than any change to the hardware.
Practical bits: the multi-tool built into the device is a choke, a wax tool and a carb cap at once. The fabric cover pulls off magnetically. The 3150mAh battery is good for about 30 sessions.

What changed between the Utillian 8 and the Utillian 8 V2?
The hardware is the same: same 3150mAh battery, same BurstHit 3D chamber, same bubbler. What Utillian changed was the calibration. About a year after launch they retuned the four temperature settings so they hold more consistently through a session, and added Boost Mode, which runs 590°F to 626°F. If you own the original, that is the difference, and it is a refinement rather than a new device.
What are the ruby pearls for?
They keep the concentrate moving. A pearl sits in the chamber and rolls as you draw, spreading the wax across the hot surface instead of letting it pool in the middle. You get more out of each load and less baked residue on the chamber floor. A pearl pack comes in the box, and they are cheap to replace if one goes missing.
Can I take the Utillian 8 V2 on a flight?
Cabin baggage only, under the same Transport Canada rule that covers every lithium battery device. Two things to do first on this one: pour the water out of the bubbler, and check the ruby pearls are still in the chamber rather than loose in the case, because they are small enough to vanish in a bag. A quick clean of the chamber before you pack saves the smell developing in transit.
Do I need to use water in the bubbler?
It works best with it. The bubbler is the reason a hit off the U8 is smoother than the same concentrate through a pen, especially at 581°F. Fill it to just cover the downstem. Too much water and you will pull it into the mouthpiece, too little and you lose most of the cooling. Empty and rinse it after heavy use rather than leaving water sitting in it.
Can I replace the chamber?
Yes. The BurstHit 3D heating element is a replaceable part and a spare is worth keeping, because on any e-rig the chamber is the wear item rather than the battery. It unscrews from the base. Keeping it clean, using the pearls, and not running everything on the highest setting all extend how long one lasts.
