This is a 510 battery, so it powers cartridges rather than holding concentrate itself. What separates it from the pen-shaped batteries on most counters is the draw sensor: start inhaling and it heats to your chosen voltage on its own, with no button held down.
Four settings run from 2.6V up to 3.8V, shown as green, yellow, orange and red on the LED. The low end keeps thicker oils from burning and preserves flavour, the high end gets a stubborn cartridge moving. A double tap runs a 15 second preheat at lower voltage, which is what you want in a cold car or when an oil has thickened and will not draw.
Cartridges fit into magnetic adaptors rather than screwing into the body, and two sizes come in the box. Check your cartridge is under 10.5mm across, since wider ones will not seat.

Will my cartridge fit the Utillian 50?
It fits standard 510 cartridges under 10.5mm in diameter. Your cart screws into one of the two magnetic adaptors in the box, and that adaptor drops into the battery. Wider cartridges, which some larger 1g carts are, will not seat properly. Measuring across the widest part of the cart before you buy saves a return.
Do I have to press the button to use it?
No. There is an airflow sensor, so simply drawing on the cartridge fires it at whatever voltage you have selected. The button is there for turning it on and off, changing voltage and running the preheat. Draw activation is the main reason to pick this over a plain button battery.
When should I use the preheat?
Double tap the button and it runs the coil at a reduced voltage for 15 seconds without you inhaling. That is for thick oil that will not move: a cold car, a cart left in a bag overnight, or a distillate that has gone solid. It warms the oil enough to draw without scorching it, which is what happens if you just fire it on the highest setting instead.
Which voltage should I run my cartridge at?
Start low. 2.6V, the green setting, suits most modern carts and keeps the flavour intact. Move up if the draw feels thin or the oil is thick. The red 3.8V setting produces the most vapour but will burn a light oil and shorten the life of the cart's coil. If you taste anything scorched, drop a setting.
Why has my cartridge stopped producing vapour?
Start by ruling out the cartridge, because it fails far more often than the battery does. Cold oil will not wick, so warm the cart in your hand and run the preheat. Then check the connection: resin on the threads stops the contact reading, and a dry cotton swab on both sides clears it. If the Utillian 50 fires on other carts, you have your answer and the cart is the part to replace.
